Rani Mahal is located at the foot of a very peaceful and picturesque hill in Palpa district. This palace tells a timeless story of love and loss. Known as the “Taj Mahal of Nepal”, Rani Mahal was built in 1893 AD by General Khadga Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana in memory of his beloved wife, Queen Tej Kumari.

After General Khadga Shamsher left political life, he had the built rani mahal on the banks of this peaceful river to immortalize his love. This magnificent palace was completed on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River during the Rana dynasty. The name of the palace, Rani Mahal, literally means the palace of the ancient queen, a symbol of deep affection and devotion.


Rani Mahal is located at a distance of approximately 13 kilometers from Tansen, the headquarters of Palpa district. The palace can be easily reached with the help of various means. The palace can be reached amidst a very beautiful and enchanting atmosphere.

By Bus :- Since there is a highway from here to various places, buses can be taken to reach here. Special vehicles pass through the same area on the route from Gulmi and Palpa to the nearest places. Information about this can be found in Tansen.

By Taxi or Reserved :- Various taxis are available from Tansen to reach here. You can also easily travel here from any part of Nepal using your own vehicle or rented vehicle.


The best seasons to visit Rani Mahal are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) when the weather is pleasant and clear. During these months, the hills are green, and the palace view is at its most picturesque.
